Considerable progress has been made in line with the Legislative and Governance Forum on Gene Technology Action Plan 2018-23, to implement those recommendations of the Final Report on the Third Review of the National Gene Technology Scheme(the Third Review) that do not require changes to legislation. The following diagram provides a high level overview of implementation status to date.

This next stage of consultation will inform the final decision, to be considered by the Legislative and Governance Forum on Gene Technology (the Forum), in relation to the regulatory reform required to implement those recommendations of the Third Review of the Scheme that do require legislative amendment.

This consultation phase progresses feedback obtained as part of the Issues Paper - Implementing the Recommendations of the Third Review of the Gene Technology Scheme. Consultation documents will seek stakeholder views on the benefits and costs of proposed options to progress implementation of Review recommendations and will invite feedback to further refine the operational understanding of the options being considered.

Further advice will be provided in relation to consultation timing as soon as this is available.
